Join Earthjustice on a trip to Arizona to deepen your understanding of the landscapes and communities within the recently established Baaj Nwaavjo I’tah Kukveni – Ancestral Footprints of the Grand Canyon National Monument. Throughout the journey, we will meet with regional partners and experts to help shape a future group travel experience that meaningfully interprets and conveys Earthjustice’s work in the region.

This nearly one-million-acre protected landscape, surrounding the Grand Canyon, was established in August 2023 after decades of advocacy led by Indigenous Tribes. The designation marks a historic effort to safeguard lands of profound cultural, spiritual, and historical importance to Tribal Nations, including the Havasupai, Hopi, Navajo, and others, whose connections to this region span generations.

Beyond honoring these enduring ties, the monument protects an ecologically rich landscape that includes thousands of sacred and archaeological sites, critical wildlife habitat, and key stretches of the Colorado River watershed, an essential water source for millions across the American West. It also permanently prohibits new uranium mining, replacing a temporary 20-year moratorium and addressing longstanding concerns about contamination and public health, particularly for Tribal communities.

More broadly, Baaj Nwaavjo I’tah Kukveni reflects a shift toward Indigenous-led conservation. It preserves not only a remarkable landscape, but a living cultural heritage—protecting biodiversity, water resources, and sacred sites while ensuring these lands endure for future generations.

Cancellation Terms

• 151+ days prior to trip start (December 17, 2027): Deposit is 100% refundable, minus credit card fees

• 150-126 days prior to trip start (December 18 - January 11, 2027): Deposit is 50% refundable, minus credit card fees

• 125-0 days prior to trip start  (January 12, 2027 - May 17, 2027): Full trip payment is nonrefundable

A per person trip deposit is due at the time of registration. The remaining balance will be due on January 12, 2027 

All remaining balances will be auto-billed to the card on file on January 12, 2027.
